Initial PETE Standard 3
Standard 3: Planning and Instruction
Physical education teacher candidates plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with local state, and national standards to address the diverse needs of all students.
Lab D Lesson
In EDU 255: Basics of Effective Instruction in Physical Education, Jack was required to develop and instruct three different lessons involving physical activity and fitness. For Lab D, the final lab of the course, Jack taught the flutter kick in the swimming pool to his peers. This lesson was his most creative and well planned lesson of the semester and used the imagination of the students in order to teach the skill. NASPE Standard 3 is well addressed in this situation as shown by his lesson plan and activity progression sheet.
Individualized Education Plan
In PED 356: Adapted Physical Education and Sport, Jack was required to complete field experience with individuals with disabilities. In the gymnasium, Jack worked one-on-one with a student with Down syndrome. Following a pre-assessment period using the Test for Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2), Jack developed an individualized education plan for his student which outlined goals for the future as well as considerations for adaptations as well as safety.
